Special Programs

Hire from HRS

HRS residents have a wide variety of skills and experience but often need help in finding gainful employment  Please contact us with any full or part-time job opportunities (daytime only) for men who want to get their life back on track.

View Resident Resumes - Some of our residents have posted their resumes for viewing by supporters of HRS. Please pass on their information to employers willing to give someone a chance at changing their life.

Let's Work Together - We also encourage HRS supporters to hire a man from our program for short-term projects.  If you need a handyman, have an odd job to do, or need help moving, please contact us to see if we have a man with the necessary skills. We are sure you will be happy with the work and will want to tell your friends and neighbors.

Vehicle Program

Residents in Phase III of our program are eligible to purchase a vehicle from HRS.  We offer a reduced price on vehicles purchased by HRS and vehicles donated to HRS for use in our ministry. Residents are allowed to drive the vehicles while they are making small monthly payments and once their contract is satisfied they take full ownership of the vehicle.  This program enables our residents to gain some independence and added responsibility as they move towards living outside our program.

If you are interested in donating a vehicle to HRS you may qualify for a tax deduction. Refer to IRS publication 4303 - "A Donors Guide to Vehicle Donations" for the guidelines.

Moving On Program

Residents are required to pay program fees each week.  The fee requirement establishes a normal living expense and helps the residents start to budget their money. $25.00 of the fees received per week is held for each resident and when they leave the program they receive a check for the total amount paid in to help with moving on beyond life at the House of Refuge.

Dental Program

Residents with six months continuous residency at House of Refuge Sunnyslope qualify for HRS dental assistance.  Residents pay for 1/4 of the cost of dental materials and the remaining cost is paid by the HRS Dental Fund coffered by donations and fundraisers. Labor costs are donated by participating dentists, a portion of which may be tax deductible. The dentist’s services are limited to one resident in a single year so we always welcome and encourage new dentists to join our program.  Ask your dentist to call our office for more information. A full smile creates opportunities!
